INDIANAPOLIS -- Already IUPUI's all-time leader in Division I wins, the women's basketball team will look to give head coach Shann Hart her 200th career victory when the Jaguars host North Dakota State in the teams' Summit League opener. Tip off from The Jungle is slated for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, and the first 90 students at the game will receive the 2009-10 official Red Zone t-shirt.
IUPUI (1-6) forced 30 turnovers in recording their first win of the season on Wednesday, turning those miscues into 23 points. The Jaguars were also aggressive in the pain, scoring 28 points in the key while getting to the free throw line 37 times.
Kerah Nelson has been IUPUI's leading scorer throughout the year, pouring in 21 points in her last game to match her career high. Both
Jessica Huffman and
Clara Mitchell finished in double figures, leading to an optimistic attitude for the Jaguars heading into their Summit League opener.
IUPUI has never lost at home to North Dakota State (3-3), as each team has defended their home court twice in the three year-old series. Last year, the Jaguars ran away from the Bison, coasting to a 63-41 win on Feb. 7.
This year, the Bison enter the game on a two-game winning streak, giving them the second-best record in The Summit League by percentage. Ashley Samuelson and Inger Hodgson have been a formidable inside-outside duo, combining for nearly 25.0 points per game.
Hodgson joined
Julia Whitted on The Summit League Preseason First Team.
