INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department will celebrate NCAA National Student-Athlete Day on Monday afternoon in conjunction with the home softball doubleheader with Butler University. National Student-Athlete Day was Sunday, April 6.
National Student-Athlete Day recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes nationwide who excel in the classroom, on the playing fields and in their communities. National Student-Athlete Day was created by the
National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) and the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society, with partnership from the NCAA and the
National Federation of State High School Associations. NCAA involvement began in 1994.
All IUPUI student-athletes in attendance will be rewarded with a pregame meal, courtesy of the IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations.
In addition, the IUPUI Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will announce its annual award winners prior to the doubleheader, including the winner of the Jag Cup. The men's soccer team has won the Jag Cup all three years since its inception in 2005.
Monday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. while the pregame festivities will start at 3:30. The Athletics Department anticipates well over 100 current student-athletes in attendance to Monday's games.
