MOREHEAD, Ky. - After a decisive doubleheader sweep of Indiana State on Monday, the IUPUI softball team's momentum came to screeching halt at Morehead State on Wednesday afternoon. The host Eagles outhit the Jags 19-7 in the two games, picking up 5-2 and 4-0 victories.
In the opener, MSU's Kari Quinn took a no-hitter into the fifth inning until freshman Stacy Harte delivered a one-out single and senior Mandy Buckwalter later launched a two-run homer to account for all of IUPUI's scoring on the day.
Harte later added a single in the seventh, finishing the game going 2-for-3 at the dish.
Junior Lea Corcoran took the loss, allowing four runs in the first inning to fall to 0-4 on the year. Quinn struck out seven and improved to 10-5 on the year.
In the nightcap, Allie Hofonsky drilled a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning off IUPUI starter Jessica McGown to break a scoreless tie. The Eagles later added an insurance run in the frame to cap the game's scoring.
Two Morehead State (29-12) pitchers limited the Jags to just four singles as IUPUI (9-26) left six on base in the loss.
McGown (3-10) yielded eight hits and four runs in 3.2 innings work in the loss. Harte and Mia Ettl both reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a walk.
The Jaguars will return to action a week from this Friday when they open up a three-game Summit League series at Oakland.
