INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI softball team celebrated Senior Day with a doubleheader sweep of Indiana State on Monday, winning game one 6-4 and capping the afternoon with a 2-1 thriller. Freshman hurler Amy Raker tossed a complete game in the opener and picked up a save in the nightcap.

The wins snapped Indiana State's eight-game winning streak.

Game #1 - IUPUI 6, Indiana State 4
In the opener, Indiana State starter Megan McCurdy was brilliant early but hit a wild streak over the later innings to open the door for some timely IUPUI hitting. After trailing 3-0 early, the Jaguars used a four-run rally in the fifth on its way to a 6-4 victory.

ISU's Reva LeDune hit a three-run homer, her first of the year, in the second inning off Raker to give the Sycamores their early lead. The Jags didn't get their first hit until Jenna Crockett drilled a two-out single to center against McCurdy and wheeled all the way around to third when the ball got past the centerfielder.

Raker followed by drawing a full count walk, but Crockett was cut down trying to score after the 3-2 pitch bounced off the catcher's mitt to the right of home plate.

In the fourth inning, the Jags pushed two two-out runs across on Amanda Mackey's infield hit. Cassie Harvey, who had earlier doubled, scored from third on the play while freshman Stacy Harte raced home from second after the return throw was wide of the plate.

In the fifth, Cayleigh Harvey led off with an infield single and Raker put runners on first and second with a single up the middle. Senior Jenny Boyts followed with game tying single to center and fellow senior Meaghan Raynes loaded the bases with a nearly identical single through the middle.

Harte followed by taking a 3-2 pitch out of the strike zone to force home a run. Mackey later drew a bases loaded walk as well and Mia Ettl capped the scoring with a slap single through the left side, making it 6-3.

LeDune helped ISU get a run back in the sixth with an RBI single, but Crockett ended the frame with a game saving catch at third. With the bases loaded, Christina Meyers smoked a line drive to the right of a drawn in Crockett, who snared the ball just inches from the ground inside the foul line.

Raker (3-6) yielded nine hits and four runs (all earned) and struck out one in the victory. McCurdy (11-10) fanned seven and walked six in the loss.

Boyts and Raynes had two hits each for IUPUI while Mackey drove in two runs from the No. 9 spot in the Jags' batting order.

Game #2 - IUPUI 2, Indiana State 1
In the nightcap, the duo of Jessica McGown and Raker combined to hold ISU (19-22-1) to just six hits and one run in a 2-1 thriller. McGown worked six innings, allowing just a solo homerun to improve her record to 3-9 on the season. Raker pitched a scoreless seventh for her school record third save of the season.

IUPUI (9-24) manufactured a run in the bottom half of the third to take a 1-0 lead against ISU starter Stephanie Jonson. Ettl led off with a single to left to set the table for the middle of the batting order.

Mackey followed by popping out to Jonson, who made an incredible diving catch as she crossed into foul territory. Ettl alertly got back to the bag and tagged up to advance to second, which was left uncovered by the middle infielders.

Crockett moved Ettl to third by driving a long foul fly just wide of the right field foul line, bringing Raker to the plate. Raker drilled the second pitch she saw to right center for her team-high 14th RBI of the year. In the fifth, Ettl helped add some insurance when she led off with a single and moved to second on a fielding error.

Mackey bunted her over to third and she later scored on a wild pitch.

On the flip side, McGown was in command for the most part, including setting down eight out of nine batters at one point. Indiana State made things interesting when Katie Armour led off the sixth with a long solo homer to right, marking her third blast of the season. McGown bounced back with a pair of pop outs and a punchout to hold the lead.

In the seventh, Katie Iocoangeli greeted Raker with a pinch hit single, but was later doubled off on Lindsey Starwalt's flare back to the pitcher. She then got a ground ball to first to end the contest.

Jonson (0-2) struck out eight and walked two in the loss while McGown registered four strikeouts. Ettl went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the victory.

IUPUI will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Morehead State for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m..
