Box Score
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two UMKC pitchers held the Jaguars to just three hits and Julie Hartung cracked a fourth inning grand slam as the host Kangaroos knocked off IUPUI, 4-0 in the rubber game of the three-game series.
IUPUI senior catcher Jenny Boyts went 2-for-3 and Amy McCoy had a pinch hit single to account for all of the Jaguars' offense.
IUPUI (7-24, 4-14 Summit) starter Jessica McGown was brilliant through three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. Lauren Cross drew a two-out walk and Carli Slagle and Samantha Hurst followed with consecutive singles to load the bases.
Hartung then launched McGown's first offering over the right field fence for her third homer of the season.
Boyts led off the fifth with a single and later moved into scoring position, but was left stranded as Hurst worked out of the jam. Hurst (5-12) allowed just one hit and struck out five before handing the ball to Taya Upkes to start the sixth. Upkes gave up a pair of singles over the final two innings to seal the win.
McGown (2-9) struck out five in the first four innings and freshman Amy Raker allowed just one hit over the final two frames.
The Jags will wrap up their home schedule on Monday afternoon at the IUPUI Softball Complex with a doubleheader against Indiana State. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. while Boyts, Mandy Buckwalter, Jenna Crockett and Meaghan Raynes will be honored between the two games.
