MACOMB, Ill. -- Needing a victory to remain in the hunt for a berth in the Summit League Men's Tennis Tournament, the IUPUI men's tennis squad downed IPFW, 4-3, at the Western Illinois Tennis Courts to improve to .500 in conference action.
The Jaguars and Mastodons split singles play, with IUPUI getting wins from
Gabriel Garcia,
Gregory Sosa and
Jorge Yunes. Garcia swept past his opponent at No. 1, 6-2, 7-6(3), while Yunes did likewise at No. 5, winning 6-4, 6-3.
Sosa was taken to three sets at No. 2, but held on to win, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, to pick up a critical point for the Jags.
Needing to win two of three doubles matches to improve to 2-2 in Summit League action, the Jaguars did just that, with Garcia and Sosa cruising to an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Yunes and #E.J. Dechow# followed suit with an 8-5 win at No. 2 to clinch the victory.
IUPUI will continue their cluster with a match versus Oral Roberts tomorrow, April 12. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET from the Western Illinois Tennis Courts.
