RALSTON, Neb. - The IUPUI softball team surged out to a 2-0 lead before even taking the field defensively against South Dakota State on Saturday, but the Jackrabbits' offense exploded for 12 runs and 11 hits over the next five innings en route to a 12-3 five-inning Summit League win. SDSU capped a three-game series sweep with the victory.

IUPUI Head Coach Maggie Calcaterra continued his tweaking of the batting order, giving freshman shortstop Stacy Harte the leadoff job on Saturday, which proved to be an immediate kick start. Harte led off the game with a double and moved to third when junior Amanda Mackey slapped a single to right.

Mackey swiped second to put two runners in scoring position. After SDSU starter Jenna Marston got a strikeout, freshman Amy Raker loaded the bases by drawing a walk. Senior Jenny Boyts capitalized on Marston's early wildness, drawing a bases loaded base on balls to make it 1-0. Cayleigh Harvey followed with a sacrifice fly to score Mackey from third.

The IUPUI (1-12, 0-6 Summit) lead remained intact until the bottom of the second when the Jacks tied the score on Greta Stroh's two-out, two-run triple. SDSU took a 4-2 lead in the third when Dani Broshar shot a two-run single to right, plating Sam Heinzman and Ashley Durazo.

The Jags took advantage of two SDSU (11-14, 4-2) errors in the fourth inning to plate an unearned run but the hosts scored four times in both the fourth and fifth innings to end the game due to the mercy rule.

Raker (0-4) took the loss in the circle for the Jags, yielding eight runs (seven earned) in 3.1 innings work. Senior Meaghan Raynes allowed four runs in relief.

Marston (11-14), who pitched every inning of the three-game series, overcame her early wildness to get the win. She struck out five and walked four in five innings.

The Jaguars hectic travel schedule continues on Monday as the team heads to Charleston, Ill. to take on Eastern Illinois as part of a rescheduled doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m..
