PHILADELPHIA, Miss, - The IUPUI men's golf team opened up the spring portion of its schedule, finishing tied for ninth at the Pizza Hut/Bell South Invitational at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Junior Tyler Zink was IUPUI's top individual finisher, tying for 32nd overall at 159 (79-80).
Junior Michael Greer's strong second round propelled him to a 34th place finish at 160 (82-78). Sophomore Jeff Bertch finished at 164 (85-79), while two Jags followed at 165.
Ball State-transfer Josh Baldwin, who joined the IUPUI team at the change of semesters, tied for 47th overall at 165 (80-85), along with senior Todd Glowacki (83-82).
Redshirt freshman Ian Pavlechko struggled on day two of the event, finishing at 170 (81-89).
Murray State won the tournament crown with a team score of 596 (298-298). IUPUI posted a 319 on day two, pulling even with Fairfield at 643 in ninth place.
Host Jackson State's Raul Cortes won the individual medalist honors at 144 (72-72), beating the field by three strokes. Murray State's Michael Craft was the runner-up at 147 (76-71). He and Loyola's Chris Derby both fired 71's on day two of the tournament.
IUPUI will return to action on Mar. 12-13 when they participate in the Butler North/South Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla..
