MEN'S GOLF TEAM TIED FOR SIXTH FOLLOWING DAY ONE OF BSU EARL YESTINGSMEIER INVITE

MUNCIE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's golf team fired a school record second round 283 and climbed up the leaderboard to sit tied for sixth after day one of the Ball State Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational. Senior Brandon Smart was one of three Jaguars to fire a second round even par 70 to fuel the surge.

Smart and senior Justin Wenger carded identical 143's (73-70) and enter the tournament's final round tied for 22nd overall. Smart was two-under through 10 holes in his second round before bogeying number five and seven to finish at even par. Wenger sandwiched three birdies around a bogey on the 426-yard par four fifth hole to climb back to even.

Junior Tyler Zink is just one shot off their pace at 144 (71-73), while Jeff Bertch rebounded from an opening round 76 to post a second round 70. Bertch had an abysmal start to the day, bogeying his first three holes, before posting a consistent second round. He had two birdies and two bogeys in his best collegiate 18 to date.

Senior Todd Glowacki rounded out IUPUI's five at 151 (76-75), finishing day one tied for 65th. Freshman Ian Pavlechko, playing as an individual, carded a 154 while playing in his hometown.

Detroit finished day one with a one stroke edge over host Ball State at 560. IUPUI is tied with Wright State and Ohio at 576, six strokes out of fifth.

Individually, Eastern Kentucky's Shaun McConnell leads the pack at 136 (68-68), with Miami (Ohio)'s Mark Robinson one off the pace.

Teams are scheduled to have a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie.
