Men's basketball standout Alex Young earned his second straight Sahm's Student-Athlete of the Month as IUPUI's top male performer during December 2010. The 6-foot-6 junior averaged 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in the Jaguars' nine outings. Behind Young, IUPUI went 5-4 overall and 2-1 Summit League play and capped the month with a season-best three-game winning streak.

Young scored in double-figures in eight of the Jags' nine games, leading the team in that category five times. He led the squad in rebounding four times during the month.

Among Young's top single-game efforts were a 22-point, eight-rebound effort in the Dec. 2 win over Centenary and 20 points and a career-high tying six assists at No. 2/2 Ohio State on Dec. 9. On Dec. 12, Young had 21 points and five rebounds in the win at Ohio University and he later pumped in 17 points and 10 boards for his fourth career double-double versus San Francisco on Dec. 23.

His best all around performance may have come against Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 27 when he scored 23 points and posted new career-highs with four blocks and five steals.
