IUPUI senior libero Shari Bernhardt has been chosen as IUPUI’s Female Student-Athlete of the Month for October. The Plainfield, Ind.-native surpassed several milestones during the month while helping the volleyball team post a 6-4 record.
In all 10 matches during October, Bernhardt posted double-digit kills including going over 20 digs in five of those matches. On Oct. 11, against Oakland, Bernhardt broke IUPUI’s single-match record for digs in a contest with 44, also marking the third-best digs effort in Summit League history.
Two weeks later, Bernhardt tallied 26 digs in a four-set win over in-state foe Valparaiso to surpass 2,000 career digs, becoming just the fourth player in Summit League history to eclipse that milestone. Then four days later on Oct. 29, against South Dakota, Bernhardt’s 42-dig performance not only led IUPUI to a five-set win over the Coyotes, but also placed her atop IUPUI’s all-time digs chart with 2,080 surpassing Erin Jones’ record of 2,067.
During the month, Bernhardt averaged 6.35 digs per set.
