For the second consecutive month, junior forward Akilah Sims has been named the IUPUI Female Student-Athlete of the Month after helping the women's basketball team to a 5-4 record in January. 

For the month, Sims averaged 13.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 1.7 apg, while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three.

She started the month with a double-double against Fort Wayne posting 14 points and 10 rebounds, but she only scored four in the next outing because of an injury that would keep her out for the next three games. 

Upon returning from injury, Sims scored in double-figures in four straight games, including pouring in a career-high tying 20 points at Western Illinois on Jan. 29.
