SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis women's golf team will have a busy Sunday (Sept. 28) as the Jaguars head north to participate in Notre Dame's Women's Fighting Irish Classic at the Warren Golf Course. Teams will play 36 holes in the one-day event on Sunday.
It marks the third tournament of the fall for the Jags, who are coming off a fifth-place finish at Ball State's Brittany Kelly Classic at the Players Club at Woodland Trails two weeks ago. The Jaguars shot a 54-hole 925 (313-303-309) at that event with rookie
Li (Sherry) Xia leading the way. Xia made her collegiate debut with a 54-hole 229 (74-74-81) to finish tied for 14th among the 50-player field.
All five Jaguars broke 80 in the second round 303 as Xia and fellow freshman
Olivia Aronhalt (75) led the way. Senior
Yanah Rolston posted a round of 76 and both
Emma Frauhiger and
Lexi Stuart shot 78.
Through two tournaments, the Jaguars own a 319.3 scoring average with Xia (76.33) and Rolston (78.33) topping the roster.
QUOTABLE
"I'm really proud of the progress these girls have shown from our first tournament. We left some putts out there and had a few trouble holes, but that's expected. We kept our game faces on and had some grit to keep pushing forward," said Associate Head Coach
Kara Blair after the opening day of the Brittany Kelly Classic.
THE COURSE
The Warren Course is celebrating its 25th year this year and rated among the best in Indiana. Most recently, it was named the No. 4 course in the state of Indiana and No. 9 Best College Course in America by GolfWeek.
THE FIELD
The nine-team field consists of Central Michigan, Dayton Evansville, IU Indy, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, Valparaiso, Youngstown State and host Notre Dame.
