AZUSA, Calif. - IU Indy freshman
Joey Ashman highlighted the Jaguars' efforts at the Bryan Clay Invitational this week, breaking the program's 800m record on Thursday (Apr. 17). He was one of four Jaguars to record a new personal best on the West Coast trip.
Ashman placed second in his heat and fifth overall in the 800m event at 1:51.33, breaking the school record by a full second. Classmate
Nick Cook ran 1:52.01, also going under the previous school record and eclipsing his personal best by three-tenths of a second.
In the 5,000m event, sophomore
Luke Shappell ran a personal best time of 14:29.91 to top the team's four entries on Thursday.
Riley Nixon opened the day with a time of 14:46.99 and
Sam Grimes ran 14:52.81. Another freshman,
Joey LaPatra, clocked a time of 15:17.37 on Thursday.
On Wednesday night,
Nate Kaiser led the team's two entries in the 10,000m event with a time of 30:32.86.
Mitchell Gits followed with a time of 31:58.81 in the final race of the evening, finishing near midnight Pacific time.
The Jaguars will make final preparations for the upcoming Horizon League Championships, to be hosted by Youngstown State on May 9-11.
