Luke Shappell broke the program's 1,500m record, but also had his 800m record broken by rookie
Nick Cook on a banner day for the Jaguars.
Shappell capped the meet with an impressive run of 3:47.42 in the 1,500m event, breaking the previous record by more than a half second. IU Indy Hall of Famer Robert Murphy held the record for nine years prior to Shappell's performance. On the flip side, Shappell held the 800m record for less than a year before Cook turned in a time of 1:52.36, taking more than a half second off the prior best mark.
In the 5,000m event, seven different Jaguars ran new personal bests while
Nate Kaiser posted the team's top time at 14:24.78.
Mitchell Gits shed seven seconds off his previous best with a run of 14:29.02 and freshman
Joey LaPatra ran a time of 15:05.67.
Alec Hueftle had an impressive time of 15:28.39 in an earlier heat, running seventh in his section.
Cook placed fifth in his section of the 800m event, becoming the first in program history to go under 1:53.
Shappell closed the meet running second in his section of the 1,500 at 3:47.42, placing fourth overall. Freshman
Riley Nixon ran a time of 3:51.73 to finish third in his section and move to No. 4 on the program's all-time list.
The Jaguars will next compete at Ball State's We Fly Challenge on Apr. 12 in Muncie, Ind.
