MEN'S TRACK TEAM REGISTERS SEVEN PERSONAL BESTS AT FAIRGROUNDS INVITE

Four Jags notch new personal records in the 800m event

INDIANAPOLIS - Seven members of the IU Indianapolis men's track team notched new personal bests as the Jaguars competed against tough competition at the Fairgrounds Invitational inside Fall Creek Pavilion on Saturday (Feb. 8). Sophomore Luke Shappell led the team's entries in the 800m event while veteran Mitchell Gits keyed the 3,000m entrants at meet's end. 

Shappell had a banner day, leading the team's entrants in the mile, just missing a personal best as he finished at 4:10.37. Freshman Riley Nixon was just off the pace at 4:11.85. In the earlier heat, rookie Zane Schorr ran 4:20.46 to take three seconds off his prior best. 

Shappell doubled back in the 800m event, running a best time of 1:56.17 while three rookies had new personal bests in an earlier heat. Nick Cook ran 1:56.39, Alec Moor ran 1:56.42 and Jaydon Steidinger finished at 1:57.69. Jay Pillai just missed a new personal best, running 1:56.84. 

In the fast heat of the 3K, Gits ran a season-best time of 8:28.38 and freshman Joey LaPatra ran a personal best time of 8:37.07. In the earlier heat, Nicholas Probst led the team's five entries with a time of 8:55.29 and Carter Schorr crossed at 8:55.49. TJ Gorman ran a time of 9:03.35 and Andrew Blake finished at 9:05.00. Rookie Ty Perez ran his first collegiate 3K for a personal best time of 9:16.33. 

The Jaguars will return to action next weekend with select student-athletes competing at Grand Valley State.
