ALLENDALE, Mich. - All four members of the men's track team that headed to the GVSU Big Meet on Friday (Feb. 14) made the most of their Valentine's Day opportunity, posting solid times in the 5,000m event. 

Mitchell Gits logged a season-best time of 14:34.96 in his heat while rookie Joey LaPatra paced the three freshmen, all running their first indoor 5K races of the season. 

Gits finished 32 seconds ahead of his season-best time and just six seconds off a personal best effort. LaPatra registered a time of 14:51.47 and Sam Grimes crossed at 14:53.91 in the same heat. With their times, LaPatra and Grimes rank as the top two freshmen in the 5K this indoor season. 

In an earlier heat, Ty Perez finished at 15:12.71 and is now ranked just outside the Horizon League's top-25 in the event. 

The Jaguars will turn attention to the Horizon League Indoor Championships, to be held in Fort Wayne on Mar. 1-2.
