INDIANAPOLIS - Eleven members of the IU Indianapolis men's track team posted new personal bests at the Midwest Classic on Saturday (Feb. 1) on a fast day inside the Fall Creek Pavilion.
The day started with three Jaguars notching new personal bests in the mile, highlighted by rookie
Riley Nixon. Nixon turned in a time of 4:10.47, moving up to No. 3 on the program's all-time list and taking over as the fastest true freshman in program history. Sophomore
Noah Price ran a time of 4:22.82 and freshman
Zane Schorr finished at 4:23.66, taking five seconds off his prior best.
In the 800m event,
Jay Pillai ran a time of 1:56.67, missing a new personal best by just more than one-tenth of a second.
Nick Cook ran a personal best time of 1:56.72 and
Alec Moor was just off his pace at 1:56.88, shaving a second off his previous best. Another freshman
Jaydon Steidinger, also ran a new personal best time of 1:57.88, taking four seconds off his previous best.
In the 3,000m event, sophomore
Luke Shappell spun the third-fastest time in program history, closing at 8:15.20 in a white hot closing heat. Freshman
Sam Grimes won the opening heat with a personal best time of 8:32.58, taking six seconds off his previous best and
Joey LaPatra was third in the race at 8:39.32 in his 3K debut.
Freshman
Carter Schorr took 10 seconds off his previous best at 8:54.63 and
Nicholas Probst shed five seconds with his 8:54.67 effort.
Andrew Blake also registered a new personal best time at 9:02.66.
The Jaguars will compete inside Fall Creek Pavilion again next weekend at the Fairgrounds Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 8.
