INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field team was back in action inside Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Friday (Jan. 24) for the first of two days of the Crossroads of America Invitational. The Jaguars were put to the test against a field of high-major competition spanning the nation.
Junior
Modupe Awosanya was the team's top performer in both the long jump and 200m dash, putting up a best mark of 5.69m (18' 8'') on her final attempt in the long jump. She followed with a time of 25.44 seconds in the 200m dash to lead the team's three entries. Sophomore
Paige Laffoon had a best mark of 5.40m (17' 8.75'') in the long jump and then followed as the team's top performer in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.33 seconds.
Morgan Hoard ran 9.43 seconds in the 60m hurdles and
Skyler Sichting finished at 9.62 seconds. In the 60m dash, freshman
Jade Wiese clocked a time of 8.46 seconds and sophomore
Paige Schulte finished at 8.71 seconds.
Wini Barnett was the team's lone entrant in the 600m run and just missed a personal best with a time of 1:44.89. In the 3,000m event,
Brooke Neal ran a season-best time of 10:10.11, finishing just three seconds off her personal best. Junior
Carina Alanis spun a time of 11:08.13 in her season debut.
To finish out the night, Awosanya paced the three entries in the 200m dash at 25.44 while
Pa'Shence Purnell finished at 26.40 seconds. Fellow freshman
Jahzara McAlister ran a time of 26.46 seconds.
The Jaguars will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 25) with events beginning at 11:00 a.m. inside the Pavilion.
