WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD WRAPS UP ISU'S GIBSON INVITATIONAL

Jaguars conclude the three-day meet in Terre Haute on Saturday (Apr. 18)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field squad overcame cold and rainy conditions as the Jaguars wrapped up the three-day Gibson Invitational at Indiana State on Saturday (Apr. 18). For the second week in a row, selected events were moved indoors due to rainy and wet conditions. 

On Saturday, the Jaguars got strong efforts from a number of sources, including freshman Sarah Madi-Bouabre, who won the collegiate division of the long jump with a personal best 5.70m (18' 8.5'') mark. Junior Journey Howard just missed a personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.60 (5' 3'') in tying for seventh-place overall. 

On the track, senior Carina Alanis just missed a new personal record in the 1,500m event with a time of 4:56.55, falling two seconds shy of a personal best. Paige Schulte topped the entries in the 400m event at 58.05 seconds and Jahzara McAlister ran a time of 58.61 seconds. Skylar Ferry capped the entries with a time of 59.39 seconds. The same trio took on the 200m event near the end of the day with Schulte running 25.40 seconds and McAlister crossing at 25.59 seconds. Ferry finished at 27.21 seconds. 

Later, freshman Jenna Twedt continued to ascend with a new personal best 800m time of 2:19.27. Fellow freshman Sophia Palmer continued her promising season with a personal best 400m hurdles time of 1:04.39, taking more than two seconds off her previous best. Howard ran a season-best time of 1:06.30, missing a new personal best by just more than one-tenth of a second.
