DOUBLES DUO OF DAY AND GUNWALL LEAD JAGS AT HORIZON LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nate Day and Konner Gunwall advanced to the semifinals before falling to Tennessee State

Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – The IU Indy men's tennis team sent four student-athletes to compete in the Horizon League Individual Championships hosted by Cleveland State. The doubles duo of Nate Day and Konner Gunwall highlighted the weekend for the Jags by advancing to the semifinals after defeated No. 3 seed Belmont.
 
IU Indy kicked off the weekend with singles play of Friday morning. Kamil Kozerski was the lone Jag to make it out of the first round, defeating Youngstown State's Viktor van Craenenbroeck in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 7-5).
 
Steven Paz fell to Tennessee Tech's Oliver Dao (7-6 (6), 6-2), Day fell to NKU's Jackson Poulos (6-4, 4-6, 6-4), and Gunwall dropped the opening match to Belmont's Charlie Robins (6-4, 6-1).
 
Day and Gunwall then teamed up for the opening round of doubles play. The duo defeated No. 3 seed Belmont in a close match (8-7(5)) to secure their spot in Saturday's doubles play. Kozerski and Paz fell to Northern Kentucky (8-7(6)).
 
On Saturday, Kozerski opened up play in the second round of singles. He fell to No. 2 seed and eventual champion of the tournament, Taj Hibbert (6-2, 6-2). In the consolation singles, Paz defeated Youngstown State's Filip Avdeev (1-2, ret.) while Day fell to Tennessee State's Rohan Loubser (6-3, 6-2).
 
In doubles play on Saturday, Day and Gunwall continued their run and advanced to the semifinals with a win over Tennessee State (8-2).
 
The Jags closed out play on Sunday with two singles matches and one doubles match. Paz defeated Tennessee State's Nick Adamec (6-1, 6-3) while Kozerski fell to Tennessee State's Loubser (6-4).
 
Day and Gunwall's run came to an end in the semifinals match where they fell to the overall champion, Tennessee State's partnership of Loubser and Hibbert.
 
The Jags will next return to Indianapolis for an Alumni meet of Saturday, October 5.
