Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's tennis team fell to cross-town rival Butler on Wednesday afternoon, 4-3. Three Jags earned singles points in the hard-fought match.
The Bulldogs took the early lead with the doubles point.
Will Thurin and
Noah Viste kept the point in reaching distance with a number three doubles win, 6-3. It wasn't enough as IUPUI lost in both the one and two doubles matches.
Kamil Kozerski and
Emil Jankowski fell in the number one spot, 6-3 while
Steven Paz and
Luka Rodic dropped the number two match, 6-4.
Singles play was hard fought from top to bottom with three of the six matches going into three sets. IUPUI recorded three wins but couldn't collect one more point to earn the win over the Bulldogs.
Kozerski earned a big win in the number one spot, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 while Paz earned the number two singles point, 7-5, 6-2. Rodic collected the third point for the Jags in the number four singles spot, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Butler took the number three, five and six singles matches to earn the win, 4-3. Viste fell in the number three spot in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6.
Nate Day dropped the number five match, 6-1, 6-0 while
Eli Mercer lost in the number six spot, 6-2, 7-5.
IUPUI will now return to Horizon League action when they travel to Northern Kentucky on Saturday, April 6. The Jags and Norse are set for a 7:00 PM first serve.
