HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The IUPUI men's golf team carded an opening round 305 at the Horizon League Championships on Saturday (Apr. 20) and finds itself looking up at the field in seventh-place among 10 teams. Titus Boswell and Kevin Tillery led the Jaguars, each carding 3-over 75 on El Campeon at Mission Inn Resort. Both are tied for 18th among the 50-player field.

Wright State leads the field at 6-under 282 and Cleveland State is second at 288. WSU's Timmy Hollenbeck is atop the leaderboard at 5-under 67 and Purdue Fort Wayne's Kasey Lilly is second at 4-under 68.

"We've got our work cut out for us," head coach Jamie Broce said. "After a really good start on one and two, it turned and we didn't do well in terms of limiting damage. We were just kind of fighting it from there. I thought we did a better job of limiting damage on the back nine and kind of finding our footing. Tomorrow is a new day and I suspect we'll do a better job of scoring and taking advantage of scoring opportunities.

"I'm proud of the guys for how hard they fought today."

All five members of the lineup had at least one birdie on the opening two holes of the day and freshman Brady Schier opened with back-to-back birdies. However, the Jags began giving strokes back on No. 3 as the team played the course's hardest hole to 7-over par. The Jags didn't make another birdie until both Titus Boswell and Morgan Tournemire both made birdie on No. 10.

Tournemire played the back nine to 1-under as part of his 5-over 77 and Tillery played the back nine to even par 37. Boswell shot 1-over 38 as part of his 75 and senior Taylor Gardner played the back to 2-over 39 to close at 6-over 78.

Boswell, Tillery and Tournemire each had a team-high three birdies while Gardner had a team-high 12 pars. The Jaguars were third-best on the par 5's at 4-under for the day.

Tournemire is tied for 32nd at 5-over 77 and Gardner shot 6-over 78. Schier ended his round at 7-over 79.

The Jags will continue play on Sunday (Apr. 21) at 12:00 p.m. off hole No. 10.
