CINCINNATI, Ohio - The IU Indianapolis men's golf team put up back-to-back impressive rounds at the Xavier Invitational on Monday (Oct. 21) and leads the 12-team field at 564 (282-282) heading into Tuesday's finale. The Jaguars lead Austin Peay by two shots and host Xavier by six shots going into the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

More impressive was that the entire lineup contributed to the effort as no Jaguar sits among the top five through 36 holes.

"Everyone had a solid day today. I think we all did a good job of keeping our head down and grinding all day," sophomore Brady Schier said. "I started off with a rough 18 and battled well on the second 18 to help the team. Everyone did their part and all we can do is give it our best effort tomorrow and see what happens."

In round one, Sam McWilliams led the way at 2-under 68, making a pair of birdies late in the round to ultimately get to 2-under. Both Colten Girgis and Titus Boswell shot even par 70 and freshman Daymian Rij was countable at 4-over 74. Boswell also closed strong with a pair of late birdies to get back to par while Girgis was at 1-under for much of his round before finishing with a bogey.

Schier rounded out the group at 8-over 78.

However, Schier turned the tables in the afternoon with a team-best, 3-under 67 with six birdies and Rij shot 2-under 68. During one stretch, Rij made birdie on five out of eight holes, going from 1-under to 5-under with five holes to play.

Girgis shot 3-over 73 and Boswell shot 4-over 74 while McWilliams closed at 6-over 76.

For the tournament, Rij is tied for eighth at 2-over 142 (74-68) and Girgis is tied for 11th at 143 (70-73). Boswell and McWilliams are tied for 13th at 144 and Schier is tied for 20th at 5-over 145 (78-67).

As a team, IU Indy leads the field with 29 birdies and is tied for fourth overall in pars. Girgis ranked among the tournament leaders in pars for day one.

UConn's Connor Goode and APSU's Seth Smith are tied atop the leaderboard at 2-under 138.
