Colten Girgis led the way as the IU Indianapolis men's golf team played a pair of rounds at the Pinetree Intercollegiate on Monday (Oct. 14). Girgis carded rounds of 76 and 74 and is 6-over for the event, tied for 13th among the 60-player field. The team posted rounds of 316 and 311 and is ninth among the 10-team field at 627.
Host Kennesaw State leads the way at 591 and Georgia State is second at 598 entering Tuesday's finale. KSU's Claes Borregaard and GSU's Connor MacMillan are atop the leaderboard at 1-under 143.
In round one, Girgis led the way at 4-over 76, including three birdies and an eagle on the 505-yard No. 7. Freshman
Daymian Rij shot 5-over 77 with three birdies and junior
Sam McWilliams shot 7-over 79, making back-to-back birdies late in the round.
Morgan Tournemire was countable at 84 while
Noah Kirsch posted a score of 87.
The Jaguars had a more steady round two as Girgis shot 2-over 74 with three birdies and both Rij and Tournemire closed at 6-over 78. McWilliams posted a round of 81 while Kirsch shot 83.
Girgis had a team-high six birdies on the day while McWilliams paced the squad with 20 pars.
The Jaguars will be paired with Bellarmine and Morehead State and begin play at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
