INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's track and field team finished up efforts at this weekend's home invitational inside the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion on Saturday (Jan. 27), capping a strong weekend of running.
Senior
Eric Petersen finished third overall in the 3,000m event in a time of 8:22.73 and
Mitchell Gits was fifth at 8:24.83.
"A lot of guys raced on Friday night and came back on Saturday," head coach
Justin Roeder said. "I love having this facility, we love staying home and (the meet) was a great time.
"We had a young group that did the mile and 800 double and a handful of them ran PRs in the mile and then ran tough in the 800."
Earlier in the evening,
Alex Alba led IUPUI's five entries in the 800m event with a time of 1:58.47, ultimately placing 14th of 35 runners overall. Freshman
Noah Price notched a time of 1:58.93 and
Jay Pillai ran 1:59.41.
Nolan King and
Connor Murphy posted successive times at 2:01.07 and 2:01.19 respectively.
Freshman
Nicholas Probst capped his weekend double with a time of 9:13.59 in the earlier heat of the 3,000m event, placing 13th of 17 entrants.
In the 400m dash, sophomore
Jaylon Cooper registered a time of 52.17 as the team's lone entrant.
"(This meet) looks exactly like a championship is going to look like," Roeder said. "That's why we doubled 5K, 3K or maybe mile, 800. I loved the way they got out hot on the first day and then battled on tired legs on the second day. I'm excited. I'm really excited for four weeks of training to where we're going to go."
