CINCINNATI, Ohio - The IUPUI men's and women's track and field teams will return to action this weekend when the Jaguars participate in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Gettler Stadium.
The trio of
Morgan Hoard,
Olivia Martinez and
Katie Moore will compete in the javelin on Friday (Mar. 31) before the full men's and women's teams participate on Saturday (Apr. 1).
The women's team opened the outdoor season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, putting up a solid assortment of marks to open the slate. Freshman
Modupe Awosanya finished second in the long jump with a wind aided mark of 6.07m (19' 11''). She and
Karis Davis both went under the school record in the 100m event, albeit wind aided as well. Awosanya ran a time of 12.23 and Davis ran 12.33.
IUPUI's 4x800 relay team of
Ellie Cates,
Julie Smith,
Wini Barnett and
Sophia Taylor won the event at Myrtle Beach with a time of 9:35.94, winning by nearly two full seconds. The Jaguars' 4x100 relay team of Awosanya, Davis,
Lillian Sebastian and
Madelynn Denny placed fourth overall with a school record time of 47.94.
The distance crew was headlined by Cates' runner-up finish in the mile as she spun a time of 5:04.67. Davis ran the team's quickest 400m time of 58.63 and was later awarded with the #HLTF Women's Runner of the Week Award.
At Miami (Ohio), the men's team opened the season with entries in four events, keyed by a win in the 800m event by
Mason Wolfe. Wolfe turned in a time of 1:57.43 and was later named #HLTF Men's Runner of the Week.
Sophomore
James Kuisel clocked a 400m time of 51.01 and
Nate Kaiser made his season debut in the 1,500m event with a time of 4:01.22. True freshman
Deion Guise topped the team's entries in the 3,000m event with a time of 9:08.23 in the outdoor opener.
