INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team returns to Indy for back-to-back Horizon League matchups in the Jungle. The Jags will host Purdue Fort Wayne as they celebrate Favorite Professor Night on Thursday, Feb. 9 with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 PM. Then IUPUI will face the Horizon League leaders, Cleveland State on Saturday for a 2:00 PM tip.
Fouls proved costly as the IUPUI women's basketball team fell to Northern Kentucky on the road on Monday, 79-69.
Destiny Perkins led the Jaguar offense with 23 points. With the 23 points, Perkins now sits just six points away from joining the 1,000 point club at 994 total career points. She would join senior
Rachel Kent as Kent hit her 1,000 point mark earlier this season and now has a total of 1,202 career points.
IUPUI has found success beyond the arc holding the league's second best percentage from long range with a 35.3 percent, averaging 8.7 threes per game.
Rachel Kent and Perkins pace the way with Kent adding 47 threes made and Perkins with 52. Kent holds a 39.5 percent (47-for-119) from behind the arc while Perkins follows with a 36.9 percent (52-for-141).
Three Jags rank in the top ten in scoring in the Horizon League with Turner coming in at fourth (14.5), Perkins just barely behind her in fifth (14.5) and Kent holding the eighth spot (12.7).
IUPUI currently sits in fourth in the Horizon League standings as they look to improve their #HLWBB record with the matchups against Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State.
The Mastodons enter Thursday's game with a 10-14 overall record and 7-7 in conference play. IUPUI defeated Purdue Fort Wayne on January 4 by eight points, 79-71. The Jags will host Cleveland State on Saturday. The Vikings sit atop the Horizon League standings with a conference record of 12-2 and overall record of 22-3. IUPUI fell to Cleveland State on January 8, 92-59.
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
IUPUI will also recognize their favorite professors on Thursday night. Annually, IUPUI invites professors across campus to a men's and women's basketball home game for "Favorite Professor Recognition". Jags student athletes are invited to nominate a professor who made an impact on their academics from the fall semester and these individuals are invited to come out to cheer on IUPUI.
Last fall was another outstanding semester for IUPUI athletes in the classroom. Great work in the classroom is accomplished in part with great teaching so IUPUI Athletics is pleased to say thank you to the following individuals who were selected by our students as "Favorite Professors."
