ALLENDALE, Mich. - Sophomore
Mason Wolfe broke IUPUI's record in the 600m event and was one of eight Jaguars to set a new personal best at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday (Feb. 10). Wolfe shed more than three seconds off the program's previous mark in the 600 as three different Jaguars went under the prior school record.
The Jaguars' day began with seven runners spread across five heats of the 5,000m event.
Grant Moon ran the team's quickest time in the 5K at 14:45.50 and
Mitchell Gits spun a personal best time of 14:54.04, taking three seconds off his prior best. Two freshmen,
Deion Guise (15:38.33) and
Nick Pulos (15:42.29), also set new personal bests on Friday.
In the 400,
Jaylon Cooper just missed a new personal best with a time of 50.83 and
James Kuisel just missed a personal best mark in the 800m event, crossing at 1:58.72. In the 600, Wolfe shattered IUPUI's prior best mark with a time of 1:22.28 and
Alex Parkhurst closed at 1:24.42.
Connor Hamilton finished his race in a time of 1:25.48 as all three finished ahead of the previous school record time of 1:25.97.
Keith Bye took two seconds off his personal best in the mile with an impressive run of 4:21.60 and
Alex Alba continued his surge with another impressive performance in the 800. Alba, coming off a personal best last weekend, took another half second off his personal best with a time of 1:54.90, missing the school record by less than a second.
A select group of Jaguars will compete on Saturday at the Jerry England Invitational, hosted by the University of Indianapolis, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
