WESTLAKE, Ohio - For the second straight day, a member of the IUPUI men's golf team carded an 8-under 63 as the Jaguars surged to a runner-up finish at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Lakewood Country Club on Tuesday (Oct. 3). This time, senior Kevin Tillery fired a final round 63 to help fuel the Jaguars' 271 as IUPUI ended the event at 17-under 835 (279-285-271). Butler rolled to the tournament title at 823 while the Jaguars moved even with Bowling Green at 835 for a runner-up finish.

The Jaguars' 835 broke the school record for 54-hole tournament scores while the final round 271 was the second-lowest single round in school history.

Senior Taylor Gardner, who shot an opening round 63 on Monday, finished the event at 8-under 205 (63-72-70) for sole possession of third-place while Tillery tied for fourth at 6-under 207 (74-70-63). Gardner's 205 tied for the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history while Tillery's 207 matched the eighth-lowest mark in history.

Junior Colten Girgis finished off a strong effort while playing as an individual, shooting 4-under 209 (68-68-73) for the week.

Tillery was the story on Tuesday, making nine birdies to accompany an early bogey on an otherwise unblemished card. He made back-to-back birdies to quickly get to 2-under and was 3-under before giving back a shot with a bogey on No. 12. He responded with back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 and also made consecutive birdies on 17 and 18. He alternated pars and birdies on his final five holes of the round for a career-low 63.

"The putter just got hot today. I've been hitting the ball pretty solid but haven't been capitalizing on it," Tillery said. "It felt really nice to see some putts drop and finish with a really good round.

"Teamwise, seeing us take it that low was really cool. We've got some young guys that are putting up good scores and me and (Gardner) broke through and took it low, which was cool as well. There's a lot of positives to take from this runner-up finish."

Freshman Brady Schier chimed in with a 3-under 68 on Tuesday while both Gardner and Morgan Tournemire shot 1-under 70 to account for the scoring. Freshman Titus Boswell shot 2-over 73, as did Girgis, playing as an individual.

IUPUI continued to feast on both the par-3s and par-5s and tied for fourth among the field with 53 birdies. Girgis tied for second among the field with 15 birdies while Gardner and Tillery made 13 each.

Gardner made birdie on two of his final three holes to get under par on Tuesday while Schier closed with a birdie for a career-best 68.

IUPUI will close out the fall when it competes in Murray State's The Buddy on Oct. 16-17.
