Senior Annaliese Fox cards rounds of 70 and 71 on Monday (Oct. 2) at Highland Country Club

10/2/2023 8:29:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI senior Annaliese Fox had back-to-back strong rounds at the Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Country Club on Monday (Oct. 2) and finds herself in the hunt for the individual title heading into Tuesday's finale. Fox shot an opening round 70 and followed up with a 71 in the afternoon to pace the Jaguars, who sit ninth among the 16 teams competing at 599 (295-304) after day one.

Fox, who made five birdies on the day, is tied for third at 141 and four shots behind UIC's Dasa Urbankova for the lead.

"Today was definitely a different day for me. It was the first time I hadn't slept good the night before a golf tournament. When I woke up I was thinking to myself that it wasn't going to be a good day of golf," Fox said. "But, I got myself out of bed and got ready and went to warm-up and I was hitting everything right where I wanted to.

"I went out and played and to my surprise, I was hitting everything right where and how I wanted to. Looking back on all of it, I think that I had more confidence in myself than I have had in a long time."

Fox rallied in round one with back-to-back birdies at the end of the round to get to even par 70 to key the Jaguars' 295. Shelby Busker and Nina Wojtczak both shot 3-over 73s and Madeleine Pape finished at 79.

In round two, Fox was at or near par for the bulk of the round on way to a 1-over 71 while Busker and Pape both shot rounds of 77. Wojtczak rounded out the scoring quartet at 79.

Busker is tied for 31st at 150 (73-77) and Wojtczak is tied for 45th at 152 (73-79). Junior Nerea Lancho topped IUPUI's three individual entries at 151 (75-76).

Tuesday's final round will begin with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
