EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After falling behind two sets to one, the IUPUI volleyball team rallied in the fourth and fifth set to come from behind and win the match over Southern Indiana, 3-2.

"I'm happy with how we battled today," said head coach Lindsey Froehlich. "We've talked a lot about letting errors go and showing resilience in the next play. We took a step forward in that today."

The Screaming Eagles took set one, 25-17. Maddie Ohm led the charge in the first set with four kills and opened the match with a kill with an assist from Addie Evans. The Jags were ultimately out hit in the first set 19-to-4.

IUPUI tied it up at one set each after winning the second set, 25-22. Sophomore Briana Brown collected six kills in the second set leading the Jags to out hit the Eagles 13-to-10. IUPUI's block game came into play in the second set with five blocks.

"Even though our serving isn't where we wanted it to be, our defense stepped up, especially our blocking," said coach Froehlich. "We had some great moments we can continue to grow."

USI took the third set 25-16, giving them the 2-1 lead but IUPUI rallied late in the fourth set winning eight of the last 10 points to force a fifth set, 25-23. The Jags fought hard in the fifth set to earn the 16-14 set victory and take the match 3-2. IUPUI out hit the Eagles by one, 7-to-6, in the deciding set.

Brown led the Jags on the attack with 12 kills, followed by Allie Pogue with 11. Emily Alan and Ohm collected six kills each. Sidney Veatch earned 17 assists and eight digs while Brooke Phillips added 12 assists and nine digs. Addie Evans totaled 16 digs and Emma Ashcraft collected 14 digs. Both Evans and Ashcraft earned a service ace.

"This team does a great job of supporting each other and I'm excited to see what we will accomplish when everything comes together," said Froehlich.

The Jags will begin the regular season next weekend on August 26 when they travel to Richmond, Kentucky for the Eastern Kentucky Tournament to face EKU, UT-Martin and Radford.
