Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – With five wins in singles play and a doubles point, the IUPUI men's tennis team defeated Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon, 6-1, to seal their second victory of the season. Freshman
Kamil Kozerski extended his win streak to two with back-to-back singles wins on the weekend.
The Jags took the lead with the doubles point with wins from the partnership of
Alex Jochim and
Emil Jankowski at No. 1 doubles (6-1) and the team of
Noah Viste and
Sean Bailey at the No. 3 spot (6-3).
Blessing Benibo and
Colton Morehart were ahead of Eastern Illinois No. 2 doubles team, 5-2, when the match went unfinished.
Senior Jochim and graduate student Bailey led the way for the Jags in singles play with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Jochim defeated Eastern Illinois's Leighton Brandon at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, while Bailey defeated Christos Kyrillou, 7-6 (2), 6-4. Kozerski won at No. 4 singles against Pau Riera, 6-3, 6-2, to earn back-to-back singles wins this weekend.
Junior
Blessing Benibo earned a No. 5 singles win over Tyler Carlin, 6-3, 6-3, while
Nate Day earned his fourth singles win of the season at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
IUPUI will be back in action next weekend on Friday (Feb. 18) when they host Holy Cross at 11:30 am then face Bellarmine later that day at 5:00 pm.
