CINCINNATI, Ohio – The IUPUI men's tennis team travels to Cincinnati to face Xavier on Friday (Feb. 11) at 1:30 PM then returns to Indy to host Eastern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 12) with doubles play starting at 2:30 PM. The Jags earned their first win of the spring season in walk-off fashion last weekend at home against Illinois State, 4-3.
IUPUI (1-6) earned their win over Illinois State with singles wins from
Nate Day,
Kamil Kozerski,
Sean Bailey and
Alex Jochim sealed the match with the final point at No. 1 singles. With
Nate Day's No. 6 singles win he is currently on a three-match win streak which started at Purdue on Jan. 30.
Xavier enters the match 3-2 after three straight wins against Bellarmine (6-1), Cleveland State (6-1) and Youngstown State (5-2). The doubles team of Ryan Cahill and Diego Nava were named BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week after helping Xavier pick up their third straight victory with a win at No. 1 doubles.
Eastern Illinois enters the weekend 0-7 after a slow start to the season. They last faced Marquette on Jan. 30 when they fell 5-2. Christos Kyrillou scored a point for the Panthers at No. 2 singles in two sets (6-3, 6-2) and Thomas Wallace earned the other point at No. 6 singles (6-4, 7-5).
The Jags kickoff the weekend at 1:30 PM in Cincinnati on Friday.
