INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's basketball head coach
Austin Parkinson has announced the hiring of
Holly Hoopingarner as an assistant coach and
Victoria Lipscomb has transitioned to recruiting coordinator.
Hoopingarner, one of the best players to don a Jaguar jersey, returns to IUPUI after a year at the University of Florida as a graduate assistant on the women's basketball staff for the Gators. Hoopingarner starred for the Jags from 2016-20, leading IUPUI to its first conference tournament title in school history and being named Horizon League Tournament MVP.
"This is a great day for our IUPUI as we welcome back one of our all-time greats in
Holly Hoopingarner back to our program in a coaching capacity," said Parkinson. "I've always thought Holly would be an excellent coach so to have her back at IUPUI is extra special. Her leadership skills, basketball IQ and work ethic will have a tremendous impact on our young ladies. She will also be an outstanding recruiter, especially here in Indiana, because of her unique ability to connect with others on a personal level."
"Holly is an energetic compassionate young lady with a very bright coaching future," said Florida head coach Cam Newbauer. "Her knowledge for the game and work ethic is unmatched. Her ability to connect and engage with her personality will make her a great recruiter and asset to Coach Parkinson's staff"
Hoopingarner also won the Horizon League's Cecil N. Coleman Medal of Honor, which is awarded to the top male and female student-athlete who demonstrate outstanding achievement in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.
Over her career, Hoopingarner was a two-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team and was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team in her senior season. The Greenwood, Ind., native finished her career averaging 8.2 points per game and 2.4 assists per game. Hoopingarner shot 37% from three-point range and over 80% from the free throw line.
Lipscomb, who has been on the IUPUI staff since 2016, will be transitioning to the Jaguars' recruiting coordinator. Lipscomb has helped IUPUI to a 104-44 record in her five years as an assistant coach on the staff.
"I am excited for Coach V to move into the role of recruiting coordinator," said Parkinson. "With her knowledge of our program, relationships with the players and her experience in recruiting this is a natural next step for career. She will do an outstanding job as we continue to pursue student-athletes who care about their educational future as well as reaching their potential as basketball players."
