OXFORD, Ohio - The IUPUI men's track team will makes its final preparations for the upcoming Horizon League Championships this weekend when the Jaguars compete in the RedHawk Invitational, hosted by Miami (Ohio) on Saturday (Apr. 24).
IUPUI runners will compete in four events on Saturday, beginning with the 5,000m event. The Jags put on a show at last weekend's Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, taking three of the top five spots, bolstered by
Mitchell Gits' victory. Gits clocked a time of 14:46.48 and was followed by
Nate Kaiser at 14:48.26 and
Eric Petersen at 14:53.08.
Nick Perkins chimed in with a solid time of 15:13.20 as well.
This weekend, Perkins, Petersen,
Conor Fagan and
Josh Campbell will take on the 5K event.
Later, Kaiser will make his collegiate debut in the 3,000m steeplechase in preparation for the Horizon League Championships.
IUPUI will load up in the 1,500m event as Gits,
Eric Hoffman,
Brooks Long,
Dakota Merkel, Butche,
Dalton Kane and
Solomon Barket will all compete. Hoffman owns the team's top time of the season at 3:57.17 and Long spun a time of 4:00.40 last weekend in Terre Haute.
Hoffman and Long are slated to double back in the 800 to close the day, while being joined by
Lucas Rhed. Rhed ran 1:57.91 at the Gibson Invitational while Hoffman and Long will be making their season debuts in the event to post marks heading into the postseason.
