INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men's tennis wraps up the regular season with home matches against Cleveland State on Saturday (April 24) and Sunday (April 25).
The Saturday match will begin at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday's match will start at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played at West Indy Racquet Club.
QUICK HITTERS
With a win over UIC in their last match, the Jags clinched a spot in the Horizon League Tournament. The Jags own the tie break against the Flames with an 8-6 overall point advantage over UIC.
IUPUI now turns its attention to a Cleveland State team that sits on the top of the Horizon League standings with a 6-0 record in league play.
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono leads the team with seven singles wins and
Alex Jochim is second on the team with six.
The Jags best spot in the lineup is the No. 6 spot as IUPUI is 8-7 in the last spot in the lineup. IUPUI is 7-9 in the No. 1 spot for the second best spot in the lineup.
In doubles play, Mardanus-Budiono and
Sean Bailey have the best record as a duo with a 7-4 record as a team.
Blessing Benibo and
Colton Morehart have the most wins in doubles play with eight each and the duo has a 5-1 record together.
SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE
Cleveland State has won 11-striaght matches and is undefeated in Horizon League play. The Vikings have played in two 5-2 wins during Horizon League play with the other four matches being 6-1 or 7-0 decisions.
Luke Phillips leads the Vikings with a 14-3 record, including at 10-1 mark at the No. 2 spot. Maxime Mareschal-Hay also has 14 wins on the year. Mathew Terry is 12-4 holding down the No. 1 spot for the Vikings.
Phillips and Nico Mostardi have the best record for the team in doubles play with a 9-3 overall record at the No. 1 spot.
ALL-TIME vs CLEVELAND STATE
IUPUI is 4-6 all-time against Cleveland State but has lost the last three matches against the Vikings. The last contest against Cleveland State was a 0-4 loss during the Horizon League Tournament in 2019.
