INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI junior guard
Rachel McLimore has been named All-Horizon Second Team and to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team, the league announced on Tuesday (Feb. 22).
McLimore finished second on the team with 14 points per game and 2.6 assists per game. McLimore was extremely efficient, shooting 46.6 percent from the field, the fifth-highest percentage in the Horizon League and the highest field goal percentage for a guard in the league.
"If you look at Rachel's numbers, she had one of the best seasons of anyone in the league," said head coach
Austin Parkinson. "She has been incredibly efficient on offense and in my opinion is the best defensive player in the league."
The Zionsville, Ind., native was a big player in the third-best scoring defense in the Horizon League, finishing second on the team with 1.5 steals per game.
McLimore picked up her game as the season went along, scoring in double-figures in each of the last eight games of the season for the Jags. McLimore scored a career-high 30 points against Milwaukee in a weekend series where the guard finished with 52 points. In her second year in the Jaguar program, McLimore upped her scoring average by more than three points.
McLimore and the rest of the Jaguars will take on Oakland in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday (March 2) at 3 p.m.
