HOPEWELL, N.J. - IUPUI fifth-year senior
Macee Williams is among 25 players selected to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats. The award was first given out in 2020 and this year's preseason watch list includes players from 22 schools and 13 conferences. Williams is one of two Horizon League players on this year's watch list.
A day after being voted the Horizon League's Preseason Player of the Year, Williams again finds herself among elite company with this recognition. She's a three-time Horizon League Player of the Year and enters her final season with a school record 1,851 and second on IUPUI's all-time list with 1,003 rebounds. For her career, she averages 15.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in 115 career contests.
She has helped lead IUPUI to back-to-back Horizon League Tournament championship games and the league title in 2020. In Williams' four seasons to date, she's amassed 80 victories in an IUPUI uniform.
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award, and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC. In January, 15 players will be named to the midseason watch list. The 10 semifinalists will be announced in February, with five finalists being announced in early March. The winner will be announced in late March. The list is fluid and players may play their way on or off the list over the course of the season.
