Box Score 2 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – IUPUI men's tennis earned a win over Chicago State in a wild comeback before falling to Purdue on Saturday (Feb. 8). The Jags overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat the Cougars a break a four-match losing streak.
IUPUI 4, Chicago State 3
The Jags dropped the doubles point, losing the No. 3 match 6-2 and the No. 2 match 6-3.
Eric Hollingsworth tied the match at one with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles but Chicago State won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches to pull within a point of the win. Sean Bailey kept the Jags alive at No. 3 with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 3 and a 6-4, 6-4 win by Ethan Mardanus-Budiono at No. 2 put everything on the No. 1 match.
Alex Jochim dropped the first set in the No. 1 match but sent the match to a third set with a 7-5 win in set two. Jochim came through for the Jags with a 6-4 win in set three to earn IUPUI its fourth-point of the match.
Purdue 4, IUPUI 0
Purdue won the doubles point with 6-1 wins in both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches.
The Boilermakers earned the match win, beating the Jags in the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 matches. The top three matches went unfinished but Jochim had won his first set 6-3 before his match ending during the second set.
