YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The IUPUI men's and women's track teams will compete in this weekend's Horizon League Indoor Championships, hosted by Youngstown State inside YSU's Watson and Tressel Training Site. The two-day meet will begin on Saturday, Feb. 29 and conclude on Sunday, Mar. 1 and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Both the men's and women's teams have numerous athletes ranked among the league's top 10 in a number of events heading into the weekend.
Leading the way, junior
Katelyn Murphy leads the league in the 3,000m (9:49.83) and 5,000m (16:48.70) and ranks third in the mile (4:58.24).
Amani Miles ranks among the league's best in the 200m (25.12) and 400m (57.25) and will compete on the 4x400 relay team. Additionally, sophomore
Kelly Zehnder ranks fifth in the pole vault (3.54m) and seventh in the triple jump (10.70m). The Jaguars' multis duo of
Kayla Wolnik and
Mikayla Miller also sit among the league's top 10 in the pentathlon.
On the men's side, the Jaguars are stacked in the distance events as the Jags have four runners among the league's top 10 in the 3,000m event, keyed by
Eric Hoffman, who is second at 8:23.03 and
Austin Ohm, who is third at 8:32.98. Freshmen
Nate Kaiser (8:36.69) and
Brennan Butche (8:38.36) rank eighth and tenth, respectively. In the 5K,
Ben Savage leads the league at 14:33.17 and Hoffman is second at 14:35.43. Freshman
Mitchell Gits (15:06.61) and Butche (15:09.09) sit eighth and ninth, respectively.
