MEN'S TENNIS FALLS IN CLOSE BATTLE AT DAYTON, 4-3

IUPUI earned the doubles point but could not pick up enough singles wins to beat the Flyers.

DAYTON, Ohio – IUPUI men's tennis came up just short, falling at Dayton 4-3 on Friday (Feb. 14). The Jags picked up two singles win in the match against the Flyers.

Play got underway with IUPUI earning the first win of the night as Ethan Mardanus-Budiono and Eric Hollingsworth won the No. 3 match 6-3. After the No. 1 doubles match went in favor of Dayton, Reed Plunkett and Nicholas Moody teamed for a 6-4 win at No. 2 to earn IUPUI the doubles point.

Singles play started with Dayton earning the first two points with wins at No. 5 and No. 4 before Sean Bailey tied the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3. A 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) decision at No. 6 against Moody gave the Flyers their third point of the match and Dayton closed out the contest with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Alex Jochim at No. 1.

The last Jaguar point came from Mardanus-Budiono who win his No. 2 match in three sets. Mardanus-Budiono dropped the first set 3-6 before coming back and winning the final two sets 6-4, 6-1.

UP NEXT

IUPUI will return home for a Sunday morning (Feb. 16) match against Marquette. The match will begin at 10 a.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.
