Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind. – IUPUI women's basketball took Notre Dame to the limit but came up just short, falling 65-58 on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 6). The Jags were led by Sydney Roule, who tied her career-high with 16 points.

IUPUI (2-1) lost its first game of the season as the Jags just could not convert in the final stages of the game. With the game tied at 58, Notre Dame (2-2) went on a 7-0 run as the Jags went scoreless in the last 3:03 of the game.

Roule, who has scored in double-figures in two of three games this season, scored 13 points in the first half and was 3-for-7 from deep in the first 20 minutes. Rachel McLimore finished the game with 11 points and Macee Williams was third on the team with eight. Williams did pull down 10 rebounds for the third-straight game.

The game was tied at 45 heading in to the fourth quarter but Notre Dame looked like it might take control with a 5-0 run to start the frame. A three-point play by McLimore and a three by Agatha Beier put the Jags back on top by one and after a stop, Williams hit a layup to put IUPUI up by three.

The Jags went cold for the next three minutes as Notre Dame went on an 8-0 run until McLimore hit a three to decrease the Irish lead to two. With three minutes left in the game, Williams tied the contest with another layup but that would be the Jags last basket of the game.

"I thought our team competed at a high level against a good Notre Dame team," said Parkinson. "The game came down to a play here or there and unfortunately we couldn't quite close the game. I am pleased with our fight as a group and overall its going to be beneficial to have some adversity before conference."

The game got off to a slow start with IUPUI holding a 5-2 lead after five minutes of play. Things picked up late in the quarter with Roule scoring eight points in the last three minutes and giving the Jags an 18-13 lead after one.

IUPUI answered every Notre Dame basket early in the second and after the lead was cut to one at 24-23, Roule began a 7-0 run with a basket. McLimore completed the run with a layup and a three and the Jags held a 31-23 lead. Free throws by Williams with a minute left in the game put IUPUI up 33-25 at the half.

Early in the third, IUPUI held a 35-27 lead after a basket by Natalie Andersen but Notre Dame's defense buckled down and allowed just a three by Roule over the next seven minutes to take a 39-38 lead. Destiny Perkins hit a jumper to end the run but the Irish took a three point lead on a three-point play with 19 seconds left. Perkins hit a three before the buzzer to tie the game heading to the fourth.

The Jags finished the game 40% from the field but allowed Notre Dame to hit 52% of its shots, including 58% in the second half. IUPUI did hold a big advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Irish 36-25 and 12-3 on the offensive end. That led IUPUI to a 16-4 advantage in second-chance points.

IUPUI is scheduled to begin Horizon League play next weekend with games at home against Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday (Dec. 12) and Sunday (Dec. 13).
