JAGS LOOK TO WIN THIRD-STRAIGHT WITH GAME AGAINST DETROIT MERCY ON SATURDAY

IUPUI will attempt to remain undefeated at home in the Jungle, facing off against a Detroit Mercy team the Jags have never lost to.

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI will be looking for its third-straight Horizon League win as the Jaguars take on Detroit Mercy in the Jungle on Saturday (Jan. 4) at 2 p.m. The game will also be streamed on ESPN3 with Scott Agness on the play-by-play call.

The game against the Titans is sponsored by Moe's and will be another IUPUI Faculty and Staff Thank You Game, where faculty and staff can get discounted tickets.

CURRENT TRENDS

  •          IUPUI is on a two-game winning streak and has won three of its last four games. In all four of those games, IUPUI has scored at least 72 points and in the three wins, IUPUI has won by at least 25 points.
  •          Macee Williams is on a tear having posted double-doubles in her last five games. The Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year has scored at least 18 points in each of her last four games and has shot better than 63 percent from the field in each game.
  •          Holly Hoopingarner is second on the team with 10 games with double-figure points and leads the team with 3.3 assists per game. In her last two games, Hoopingarner has dished out 13 assists, including tying her career high with seven against Oakland.
  •          Katelyn O'Reilly has been playing solid all-around basketball in her last four games. In those games, O'Reilly is averaging 8.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.5 apg and 1.8 spg. O'Reilly is also shooting 75 percent from deep during those games.
  •          Outside of the game at Youngstown State, IUPUI's defense in the last five games has been solid. IUPUI has kept four if its last five opponents under 53 points and allowed those teams to shoot no better than 35.6 percent from the field. The Jags have also locked down the arc, keeping those four opponents to under 22.7 percent shooting. This includes IUPUI not allowing Oakland to hit a three (0-10). It was the first time since 2017 in a WNIT matchup against Saint Louis (0-13) that an opponent did not hit a three against the Jags. 

ALL-TIME AGAINST DETROIT MERCY

  •          IUPUI and Detroit Mercy will be playing for the fifth time in program history. All five meetings will have come during Horizon League play.
  •          The Jags have won all four previous meetings between the two teams and it has not been close. IUPUI's lowest margin of victory against the Titans was the 17-point win in the last meeting.
  •          IUPUI's average margin of victory in the four meetings has been 28 points and in the two home meetings, IUPUI has beaten Detroit Mercy by an average 31.5 points.

 

DETROIT MERCY TRENDS

  •          Detroit Mercy earned its first win of the season with a 70-62 win at UIC on Thursday (Jan. 2). The Titans had lost 12-straight games to start the season, with the five most recent losses by at least 14 points.
  •          No Titan is scoring in double-figures on the season, with Sylare Starks leading the team at 9.8 points per game. Scoring has been tough for Detroit Mercy as the Titans are averaging 60.5 points per game.
  •          In Horizon League play (2 games) Maxing Moore is scoring 15.5 points per game and Markyia McCormick is pouring in 11.5 points per game.
  •          The Titans defense has allowed 79.2 points per game, allowing their opponents to reach the 70 point mark in 10 of their 13 games.
