Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – IUPUI men's tennis picked up its first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Saint Louis on Saturday night (Jan. 25).
The match started with IUPUI (1-1) earning the first doubles point with a 6-1 win by Ethan Mardanus-Budiono and Sean Bailey at No. 2. After Saint Louis (1-3) took the No. 3 match 6-4, the duo of Alex Jochim and Nick Moody won the No. 1 match in a tie break 7-6 (7-5) to give the Jags the first point.
Jochim then earned IUPUI its second point of the match with a quick 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 1 singles match. Mardanus-Budiono earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 to put IUPUI one point away from the win but Saint Louis made a comeback.
The Billikens beat Bailey 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 and then won two three-set matches to tie the match 3-3. Moody lost 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 and Eric Hollingsworth was defeated 6-7, 4-6, 4-6 at No. 4.
The match then came down to the No. 6 singles match, which Michael Koch easily handled 6-1, 6-2 to end the match in IUPUI's favor.
