INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men's tennis had a solid showing to kick off its fall season at the Butler Invite. Four different Jaguars earned singles wins with sophomore
Alex Jochim earning four singles wins over the weekend.
Jochim, last season's Horizon League Freshman of the Year, began his weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the first round over Ball State's Perrish Simmons. Jochim then beat Ryan Roegner of Butler 4-6, 6-0, 10-7 to move on to the third round. After falling in three sets in the third round Jochim won 6-3, 6-0 and 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 in the consolation round.
Other singles wins the Jags picked up belonged to
Eric Hollingsworth (7-5, 6-2),
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono (6-2, 6-0), and
Sean Bailey (6-2, 6-4).
In the consolation draws,
Michael Koch earned a win as well as
Colton Morehart. Mardanus-Budiono also earned two more wins in consolation play with Bailey and Hollingsworth each grabbing a singles win.
In doubles play, Bailey and Budiono teamed for a 6-4 win and Jochim and Morehart also earned a 6-4 win. After losing in the first round, the team of Moody and Hollingsworth picked up a 7-5 win in the consolation round.
The Jaguars will continue play this upcoming weekend with three athletes competing in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
