WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – IUPUI senior
Krisztian Somhegyi qualified for the Men's NCAA Diving National Championships in the platform competition after his performance in the platform event on Saturday (Mar. 16).
Somhegyi finished in eighth place in the platform with 666.50 points, just under six points above the ninth space spot. In his final dive, Somhegyi scored 68.8 points to earn his spot in the national championships in Austin, Texas from March 27-30.
This marks the second time in his career that Somhegyi will be competing in the NCAA Championships after also qualifying in the platform event as a freshman. Somhegyi will be the lone diver from the Horizon League to make the championships.
IUPUI had three other divers compete in the Zone Championships. Somhegyi finished 24
th in the 1-meter with 268.45 points and was joined by
Patrick Tener (256.00) who finished 28
th and
Mitch Mastey (236.70) who finished 35
th.
In the men's 3-meter, Mastey finished in 27
th with 284.20 points and Tener took 35
th, scoring 237.25 points.
Rylee Dahlman was the lone female Jaguar to compete in the Zone Championships. The sophomore finished 32
nd in the 1-meter with 239.85 points and scored 224.90 in the 3-meter, which was good for 42
nd.
