CHICAGO – The IU Indianapolis swimming and diving teams split their dual meet at UIC on Saturday, with the Jaguar men rolling to a commanding 197–97 win while the women's team battled hard in a 219–80 defeat.
The Jaguars controlled nearly every event on the men's side, highlighted by a clean sweep in the 1000 freestyle, where
Luke Parsons (9:32.49),
Michael Esdon (9:34.48), and
Youssef Magdy (9:34.71) took the top three spots. Parsons doubled up later with a win in the 500 free (4:35.61), followed by Magdy (4:38.68) and Esdon (4:42.20).
Logan Kelly led the charge in the breaststroke events, sweeping both the 100 breast (54.92) and 200 breast (2:02.19), while
Zach Drotar finished runner-up in both races.
Grayson Tidwell swept the backstroke events, taking the 100 back (50.39) and 200 back (1:53.17), and later added fifth in the 200 IM (1:57.68).
In the butterfly,
Isaac Wilson (1:52.44) won the 200 fly, leading a 1-2-3 finish with
William Gorman (1:52.85) and
Carson Szotek (1:53.09).
Hugo Arteaga and Shane Tebeest followed with second and third in the 50 free (21.04, 21.26), and
Keaton Barwick sprinted to victory in the 100 free (46.73).
IU Indy's relay teams also impressed. The quartet of Tidwell, Kelly, Wilson, and Tebeest won the 200 medley relay in 1:30.57, while Barwick,
Nathan Rariden, Arteaga, and Tebeest took second in the 400 free relay at 3:06.15.
In diving,
Sebastian Otero placed second on both boards—385.13 on 3-meter and 327.98 on 1-meter—while
Evan Butcher added a fifth-place 270.83 on 3-meter.
On the women's side,
Alaina Heyde led IU Indy on the boards, taking second on both the 1-meter (242.93) and 3-meter (277.50).
Midori Adams and
Lindi Jenkins also earned top-five diving finishes.
In the pool, Vicky Surdyka claimed victory in the 100 breast (1:07.55) and added fifth in the 200 IM (2:17.29).
Sadie Leininger took second in the 200 breast (2:29.04), while
Addy Hirsbrunner placed second in the 200 fly (2:11.58) and third in the 500 free (5:14.48).
Jenna Williams was third in the 200 back (2:09.46) and second in the 100 back (58.34), with
Chloe Yerkes close behind in both races (58.82, 2:12.25).
Kyrah Kittleson (1:57.76) and
Bella Tufts (1:57.87) went 4–5 in the 200 free, while
Luca McGee posted top-five finishes in the 50 free (24.91) and 100 free (54.77).
The Jags' relay team of McGee, Kittleson, Tufts, and Hirsbrunner took third in the 400 free relay (3:37.47) to close the meet.
