DETROIT, Mich – IUPUI continues to battle for a top-four seed down the stretch of the Horizon League season and will take a three-game winning streak in to Calihan Hall for a matchup against Detroit Mercy on Saturday (Feb. 16). The game against the Titans will be at 1 p.m. and streamed on ESPN3.
IUPUI earned its third-straight win with a 76-70 victory over Oakland, holding off the Golden Grizzlies in a close battle. Senior
Tamya Sims led the way for the Jags with a season-high 18 points and
Holly Hoopingarner scored 16, closing out the game at the free throw line where the junior went 8-for-10 on the night.
Katelyn O'Reilly added 15 points and
Macee Williams collected her eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Jags now set their sights on a Detroit Mercy team that is coming off of a 62-45 win over UIC on Friday night. The win over the Flames snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Titans. In the game, Sophia DeMilia led the way for Detroit Mercy with 21 points and Paige Bellman posted a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double.
IUPUI will look to make it four-straight wins over Detroit Mercy and the Jags took care of the Titans 82-47 in the Jungle the first meeting of the year. Williams was one of four Jaguars to score in double-figures, dropping in a game-high 19 points. The Jags dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Detroit Mercy 54-29 including grabbing 30 offensive rebounds.
All three meetings between the two teams have been decided by at least 28 points and IUPUI has never scored less than 82 points against the Titans.

Jags Hang On Against Oakland
- IUPUI finished with four players in double figures for the sixth time this season, improving to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
- The Jags are 3-0 on Thursdays this season with all three wins coming in Horizon League play.
- IUPUI allowed Oakland's Taylor Jones to score 28 points, the second most points scored by a player against IUPUI
- The last six home games for IUPUI have been decided by at least 20 points, IUPUI's last five road games have all been decided by six points or fewer.
- IUPUI allowed an opponent to hit at least 50 percent from the field for the first time since Milwaukee hit 51.9 percent on Feb. 19, 2018.
- IUPUI hit 20 free throws on 26 attempts. The last time the Jags hit 20 free throws was in the first matchup against Oakland when the Jags hit 27 free throws on Jan. 13.
- The Jags went 2-17 (11.8 percent) from the three point line, tied for the fewest threes hit the season and is the second-lowest percentage of the season behind a 2-18 (11.1 percent) outing against UT San Antonio.
- IUPUI gave up 70 points for the first time since a 70-52 loss at Youngstown State. The Jags have allowed 70 points in seven games this season and are now 2-5 when doing so. The only other win was a 73-72 win over UT Martin back on Nov. 13.
Hall of Points
- Sydney Hall is the active leading scorer for IUPUI with 951 points. With another 49 points this season, Hall would become the 25th player in school history to reach the 1,000 career point mark.
- Hall is also the active leader in three-point shots made, having hit 202 in her career. Hall is now third all-time in school history and is 25 threes away from becoming the all-time three point shooter.
- The senior has also reached the 200 career assist mark and is just three rebounds away from 300 in her career.
Winning on the Tundra
- IUPUI beat Green Bay 67-63 in overtime on Saturday (Jan. 26). It was the first time Green Bay had lost a conference home game since Jan. 28 against Oakland. It was IUPUI's first win in five tries against the Phoenix.
Getting the Defense Going
- Since surrendering 70 points to Youngstown State on Jan. 5, IUPUI has locked down opponents, especially on its home court. In five home games, the Jags have allowed an average of 44.6 points per game with a high of 53 points allowed to Oakland on Jan. 13.
Great Results in the Great Lakes State
- IUPUI has had strong results in the past few years against Michigan teams having won its last nine games against teams from Michigan, including four-straight against Oakland and two against Detroit Mercy. The Jaguars last loss against a Michigan team was a 45-64 loss at Michigan State in 2014.
Winning Big
- IUPUI has won their last six home games by at least 20 points. It is the longest streak in school history. The Jags have outscored opponents on their home floor by over 18 points and have won by an average of more than 18 points this season.
Let's Play Extra
- IUPUI has played in a school record five overtime games this season going 2-3 in those games. Twice, IUPUI has played in back-to-back overtime contests. The first occurrence saw the Jags lost to Southern Illinois and Wright State. IUPUI has won its last two overtime games, winning back-to-back overtime games at Green Bay and Milwaukee.
