CLEVELAND – IUPUI finishes up its first weekend of Horizon League play on the road, taking on the Cleveland State Vikings on Monday (Dec. 30). The game against the Vikings will tip at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN3.
The Jags are looking to bounce back from a loss at Youngstown State, 75-73, to begin league play. It is the second-straight season IUPUI has lost its league opener after falling to Wright State last season. In the loss,
Macee Williams notched her seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds, both team highs.
Sydney Roule hit double figures for the first time since the season opener, scoring a career-high 16.
IUPUI dominated Youngstown State on the glass, outrebounding the Penguins 41-26 and 22-1 on the offensive end. That led to a 19-0 advantage in second-chance points.
The Jaguars were done in by the Penguins hot shooting from beyond the arc as YSU went 11-for-20 from three, including going 11-for-15 after the first quarter. Conversely, IUPUI shot just 8-for-28 from deep, going just 2-for-13 in the second half.
IUPUI also struggled at the free throw line, going 15-for-24 from the stripe, including missing six free throws in the final quarter.
Austin Parkinson's squad now turns its attention to the Horizon League's hottest team. Cleveland State is 11-1 on the season and winners of 11-straight games after dropping its season opener. The Vikings are coming off of a 40-point drubbing of UIC to begin conference play. In the win over the Flames, Cleveland State shot almost 50 percent from the field and forced 28 turnovers that it turned in to 33 points.
Five Vikings finished in double figures with Mariah Miller leading the way with 17. She was joined by Mariah White (15), Jade Ely (14), Jamiya Braxton (11) and Isabelle Gradwell (10). The league's highest-powered offense put up 84 points to start conference play and is averaging 74 points on the season.
Miller and White are both averaging in double-figures with Miller scoring a league-best 21 points per contest and White pouring in 15.3.
